The former chief architect of Intel’s GPU division, Raja Koduri departs from the company.

Raja Koduri leaves Intel. He joined Intel in 2017 as chief architect in senior vice president of the Core and Visual Computing Group and was responsible for the GPUs and accelerators. There will also be a new head of Intel Foundry Services.

Raja Koduri’s departure is announced on Twitter by Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger. He thanks Koduri for his “many contributions” to Intel, especially in the field of high-performance graphics. Koduri was, among other things, the lead figure behind the team responsible for Intel Arc GPUs. He will leave at the end of this month and will focus on a generative AI software company for gaming, media and entertainment.

Koduri joined Intel in 2017 and was the head of Intel’s Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics Group (AXG) until late last year. This part was then split into a consumer branch and a data center and AI branch, after which Koduri Intels chief architect for gpus and accelerators.

Before joining Intel, Raja Koduri worked at AMD for four years, the last two years as senior vice president in chief architect of the Radeon Technology Group. Between 2009 and 2013 Koduri worked at Apple on graphics chips, but between 2001 and 2009 he was also chief technical officer at the graphics division of AMD.

Intel also announced that on Tuesday Stuart Pann will be in charge of Intel Foundry Services. He succeeds Randhir Thakur, whose departure was announced last year. Pann was for this senior vice president, chief business transformation officer in general manager at Intel’s Corporate Planning Group.

Intel Foundry Services was announced early last year as part of Intel’s new IDM 2.0 strategy. With this, the company no longer only wants to produce chips for itself, but also wants to serve as an external foundry for other companies. The American chip manufacturer wants to compete with Asian market leaders TSMC and Samsung.
