The fifth and final installment of the Purge franchise, The Forever Purge, was officially rated R for “strong and bloody violence and foul language.” Did you expect less? The R rating puts The Forever Purge in line with the rest of the series, each of which has continued the brutal violence and outward chaos that comes with the annual celebration.
Direct sequel to The Purge, released in 2016: Election Year, The Forever Purge picks up after last year’s presidential elections and the abolition of the titular Purge, an event in which all crimes, including murder, are legal for a period of 12 hours. The Forever Purge approaches the event on a much smaller scale, following a Mexican couple who escape a drug cartel and find themselves stranded on a Texas ranch. There they will be at the mercy of a group of misfits who decide to illegally pursue their own Purge, turning on the couple with the desire to kill them.
Directed by Everardo Gout, written and co-produced by The Purge mainstay James DeMonaco, it stars Ana de la Reguera, Josh Lucas, Tenoch Huerta, Leven Rambin, Will Patton and Cassidy Freeman.
James DeMonaco gave new recruit Everardo Gout some advice on how to approach The Forever Purge, telling him to think about his own take on violence before wearing anything onscreen. “’I want my intentions to be perfectly clear about how I feel about violence and what’s going on in the world. That’s what he told me, ”revealed Gout. “It’s dystopian, but he’s trying to get us to look in the mirror. He makes us think, “Shit, if someone pushed me into a corner, would I do the same?” “. The Purge franchise began in 2013 and has since grown into one of modern cinema’s most iconic horror properties.
