The footballer who ordered 400 liters of cognac from Alimentara in Bucharest

The footballer shocked the seller at Alimentara in Bucharest when he asked for 400 liters of cognac.

The footballer emptied Alimentara from Bucharest: “I want 400 liters of cognac”

Not less than 400 liters of cognac he ordered the footballer at Alimentara in Bucharest, with the aim of taking the goods across the border.

Everything happened before the Revolution of 1989, when traveling outside our country was a luxury that very few had. Among the privileged were the top footballers, who thus had the opportunity to round off their incomes. The goods with which they made a habit of coming, however, did not only come from across the borders to Romania, but also in the opposite direction.

Petru Cadar (75 years old), the legendary player of Brașovtold how when leaving the country together with the team, he bought no less than 400 liters of cognac from Bucharest, for himself and his teammates, to sell the products in Lebanon.

“(no Did you have problems with Security?) I did! I was very good friends with Radu Nunweiller. When he went to Switzerland, I also had an invitation from him. They called me and asked me what I wanted. “I want to go to my friend”. “Hey Cadare, I can’t let you go!”. He told me honestly: “Let another family member go.” They put my wife on the list, she went, but they asked for my word that she is coming back. He stayed for a month and returned home.

(no. Didn’t you have any other troubles with them?) We, in order to make some extra money, used to bring products from the country that were very expensive to them. We were going to Lebanon, Turkey, Bulgaria, Iran, Greece, Germany. These were the countries where we could make money. Perfumes, sprays… In Lebanon I brought drink, cognac. The one with the plane that took us said: “I’m not taking anyone anymore, because you filled the plane!”. I emptied a grocery store in Bucharest! I looked for a grocery store in Bucharest: “How much cognac Zarea do you have?”. “Why you ask?”. «I would buy a larger quantity». I immediately thought of my colleagues. I took 20 liters, then everyone wanted the same. I told him: “I want 400 liters!”. “I just unloaded the truck, do you want me to give it to you?”. I went to Hotel Astoria and when my colleagues saw me carrying… Oh my God!

We had some problems at the airport there, but they let us into the country. When we arrived in Tehran, we went on a trip to the city to sell. I arrived at a bar. With us, a bottle of cognac was 108 lei, and there we sold it for 12 dollars. The black ones were 250-300 lei! All my classmates went to that bar! Woe to me, how happy the owner was! I was very lucky to find a representative of Romania, from Brașov. We fixed memories and he always took care of us. I think it was also political”, recalled Petru Cadar, appropriately GSP.

Petru Cadar used to go to Alimentara only for cognac and bread: “We had meat to cut!”

Although they had certain privileges, the footballers of those times led lives similar to the rest of Romania’s population. Petru Cadar says that, throughout his career, he raised animals and vegetables in the yard, so he only went to Alimentara for bread or other products that did not exist in his household.

“I had the same lifestyle that I inherited from my parents. My father died when I was 12 years old, my mother was left with four children.

I was the hardest worker. I kept a cow, two pigs, 20 chickens. All day I ate eggs, milk… I only went to Alimentara for bread and I don’t know what else. We had meat to cut!”, said Petru Cadar, according to the source cited above.
