The following is the chronology and identity of FKIP UHO students who died in Batu Gong

PENASULTRA.COM, KENDARI – A total of 10 students from the 2019 batch of Physical Education, Health and Recreation Department (Penjaskes Rek) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Halu Oleo University (UHO) Kendari were dragged into the sea while they were doing a Practical Exam as well as recreation on the beach Batu Gong, Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province (Sultra) on Sunday, July 11, 2021.

Of the 10 students, 8 people survived, 1 person died and 1 person has not been found and is still in the process of being searched by the Kendari Basarnas, the police and the surrounding community.

One of the students of Physical Education Rek FKIP UHO, Aknan, when confirmed by the media crew explained that the activity was a practice of motor learning as well as recreation. They went to Batu Gong Beach with one of the lecturers with the initials AA at around 10.00 Wita with a total of approximately 100 people.

“All 2019 batches, we gather at 9 o’clock on campus, and at 10 o’clock we leave. About 100 more departed. When we got there, we grilled fish, the goal was actually to practice, but I don’t know because the weather was also not supportive, so there was no practice,” he explained.

He also said that one of their friends, Muh Fairuz Nisam, died while drowning because he was dragged by the waves at around 16.00 WITA.

“Earlier the water was high, then the waves were strong. The one who died was from Kendari, his home in Andonuhu,” he said.

Public Relations of the Kendari Basarnas, Wahyudi, in a press release said that as of 22.00 WITA there were still 2 victims who had not been found.

The two victims were named Robin, the male gender was a student of Penjaskes Rek FKIP UHO, and Muh Akhir, male, a resident of Toolawawo Village, Lalonggasumeeto District, Konawe Regency.

“Until 22.00 WITA, SAR operations were suspended with no results and will resume tomorrow morning at 06.00 WITA,” explained Wahyudi.

According to information compiled by this media, Muh Akhir, one of the victims who have not been found is a resident who helped the drowning of the UHO student.

“The chronology of the incident is that UHO students who were at door 2 of Batu Gong beach went down to the sea to swim with the sea conditions with waves of approximately 2 meters. And then the victim was swept away by the waves and his colleagues and local residents who saw the incident immediately took steps to help. However, according to information from a resident of Toolawawo Village, Lalonggasumeeto Sub-district, named Muh Akhir who has helped to this day has not been found,” said the Lalonggasumeeto Police Chief in his written report received by the media.

Meanwhile, the Dean of FKIP UHO, Jamiluddin, when confirmed, said that the activities carried out by students together with one of the Rek Health and Health lecturers that led to the unfortunate event were without the knowledge of the Department and the Faculty.

“I asked the head of the department, also there was no permission from the head of the department,” he said.

He emphasized that during the current pandemic atmosphere it is not allowed to carry out lectures or practice activities face-to-face, especially outside campus.

“What is clear is that this activity is outside the faculty’s permission. We never give permission for offline lectures. So the activities carried out by one of the lecturers are wild activities,” he said.

Therefore, said Jamiluddin, if there are lecturers who bring students outside the campus, the responsible lecturer is the lecturer concerned.
