On the occasion of the flu vaccination campaign, the Spanish Society of Health Directors (SEDISA) has launched a perception survey of health managers. This is sponsored by Sanofi and the collaboration of the National Association of Nursing Directors (ANDE), the Spanish Society of Primary Care Directors (SEDAP) and the Platform of Patient Organizations (POP). The most important conclusion is that the Influenza vaccine increases the efficiency of the Health Systemoffering protection to professionals and patients.

The Survey is part of a broad and widespread Awareness Campaign on the importance of Vaccination against the Flu. Dulce Ramírez, first vice president of SEDISA, provided information on the same. “This has as its most important objectives position flu vaccination as a key point in health and in the quality and efficiency of the Health System”. The objectives also highlighted raising awareness among health managers, health professionals and patients about the serious consequences of the flu. Likewise, the impact on the vaccination rate and on the efficiency of vaccination recommendations.

Improve the efficiency of the Health System

Despite the fact that vaccination is key to the efficiency of the Health System, the participants pointed out some of the most prominent barriers for the same. The first is the low risk perception about the impact of influenza and its consequences (71.43 percent) and the fear of secondary effects of the vaccine (42.86 percent). These are followed by the lack of information on the complications of the flu (21.43 percent).

Likewise, the survey assesses the perception of measures to increase the vaccination rate in general. In this way, to improve the efficiency of the Health System would be the implementation of more effective vaccination strategies. Also the management of incentives according to the vaccination rate and the compulsory nature of vaccination in professionals of health organizations.

In this regard, both the most effective strategies and the management of incentives have a high rating regarding their viability. In contrast, the obligation for professionals to be vaccinated has a lower viability assessment.
