– Stars and Stripes reported on the 9th that the first female ship carrier captain was born in the history of the US Navy.

According to Sung-George and the Navy, for the first time in naval history, Colonel Amy Bauenschmidt was recommended as the captain of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72). It was the first time in 245 years after the Navy was founded in 1775 that a woman has been recommended by the US Navy as a captain of an aircraft carrier.

Colonel Bauenschmidt is a native of Wisconsin, graduated from Naval Academy in 1994 and became a naval helicopter pilot in 1996. He served as a flight instructor, helicopter unit chief, and commander, and has a flight record of more than 3,000 hours.

In August 2016, he served as deputy commander of the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln. It was also recorded as the first female assistant commander at the time. Recently he commanded the amphibious ship San Diego.

According to the US Navy, Colonel Bauenschmidt will command the Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier from 2022, along with five male officers recommended together. The US Navy has 11 aircraft carriers in total, each of which has 5,000 crew members and 60 to 75 aircraft.
