The Bundestag Vice President added: “Artists should actually be a thorn in the side of those in power, not their employees.” According to Kubicki, it would be better to give all artists who have been hit hard by the pandemic the opportunity to work freely instead of introducing such an “elitist project”.
The authors Mithu Sanyal, Dmitrij Kapitelman and Simone Buchholz recently promoted the idea of a parliamentary poet. Such an office can serve as an irritation and disruptive factor and at the same time build bridges to heal the cracks in our society. In Canada, Parliament created the position in 2001. The poet writes texts for special parliamentary events, gives poetry readings and advises the parliamentary library on the acquisition of cultural material. Similar positions also exist in the USA and other countries. Bundestag Vice President Göring-Eckardt was open to the idea. The Greens politician had announced that she wanted to discuss the idea in the Bundestag Presidium.-
