The First Five Objects Revealed by the James Webb Space Telescope

Monday, 11 July 2022 – 17:11 WIB

VIVANASA revealed a list of the first five cosmic objects to be targeted by the Telescope Outer space James Webb (JWST) which is the successor to the Hubble Space Telescope and was launched in December 2021.

Meanwhile, these five targets include the Carina Nebula, the WASP-96 b spectrum, the Southern Ring Nebula, the Stephan’s Quintet galaxy group, and SMACS 0723. Quoted from the website BGR, Monday, July 11, 2022.

First, the Carina Nebula is the largest and brightest nebula in the sky which is 7,600 light years from Earth and is several times larger than the Sun.

In addition, the Carina Nebula is also a place where stars form and is filled with massive stars.

Second, the spectrum of WASP-96 b as a large planet half the size of Jupiter found outside our solar system is formed mostly from gas and is about 1,150 light years from Earth.

Third, the Southern Ring Nebula, also known as the “eight blast” nebula, is 2,000 light-years from Earth and is known as an ever-expanding cloud of gas that surrounds a star nearly half a light-year in diameter.

Meanwhile, the other two targets are the Stephan’s Quintet galaxy group which is about 290 million light years away and SMACS 0723 which is a massive galaxy cluster.

NASA said, along with the release of these first images, then officially James Webb’s science operations began.

“The release of this first image marks the beginning of Webb’s science operations, which will continue to explore the mission’s key science themes. The team has implemented a rigorous process of time to use the telescope, which astronomers call the first “cycle,” or first year of observation.” as quoted from the site NASAMonday, July 11, 2022.

Later, NASA will announce the first five cosmic objects captured by JWST through NASA’s live broadcast on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 10.30 am local time.

In addition, later every image of these five cosmic objects will also be simultaneously available on social media and on the official NASA website.
