The first Dutch couple at the European Championships Figure Skating since 1996 becomes 16th NOW

Michel Tsiba and Daria Danilova finished 16th at the European Figure Skating Championships in Graz, Austria on Friday. The duo was the first Dutch couple to participate in European championships since 1996.

The 22-year-old Tsiba and the 17-year-old Danilova had placed themselves in the short kür on Wednesday as sixteenth and last for the free kür of Friday.

In it, the Dutch couple showed a flawless performance. With a total of 116.30 points, Tsiba and Danilova finished at a great distance from the other 15 pairs.

The stage was completely Russian. The gold went to the young pair Dmitri Kozlovski (20) and Aleksandra Boikova (18) with 234.58 points.

The born Dutchman Tsiba has been a couple with the Moscow-born Danilova for a year and a half. In Graz, they followed in the footsteps of Alcuin and Jeltje Schulten, who were the last Dutch European Championship participants 24 years ago in the couple driving.

Wories does not stand for free freestyle

Niki Wories did not qualify for free freestyle with the women earlier on Friday. The 23-year old Dutch finished 35th in the short freestyle in a field with 37 participants.

Wories, who should have finished in the first 24 to also be allowed to ride the freestyle, set her best European Championship performance in 2016 with a twentieth place.

Among the men, Thomas Kennes failed to reach the top 24 in the short freestyle on Wednesday. The 23-year-old art rider was 33rd and was not allowed to come back for the freestyle.
