The Christmas Lottery of this 2019 has a novelty. From January 1 of this year, prizes less than 20,000 euros are exempt from tax. All prize winners who exceed this amount must make a payment to the Treasury of 20% of the amount once the exempt amount is subtracted. How is a tenth charged?
To collect a tenth, the State Society of State Lotteries and Gambling (SELAE) reminds that it is essential to present the winning ticket or receipt at one of the points of sale of the Lottery commercial network. It must be taken into account that if the amount of the prize is equal to or greater than 2,000 euros, it must be collected from the authorized financial entities.
SELAE informs that the entity in question will be in charge of verifying the prize through its payment gateway, and can collect the necessary documentation and information in compliance with the regulations on the prevention of money laundering, terrorist financing or tax regulations, among others. . Once the entity verifies that everything is in order, the winner may receive the amount by check or bank transfer.
The entity warns that the deadline to collect the prize must not exceed three months from the day after the draw is held, so the deadline to exchange the awarded tickets is March 23, 2020, inclusive.
