One morning in April 2006, two farmers living in the town of Barcus were the target of several rifle shots fired by an unknown person. Who blames these two brothers esteemed by all? However, it will not be necessary to look far, the investigation will quickly put a name on the crazy shooter.
The place is mountainous and green, away from the village. However, the calm that envelops the Rajas district in Barcus is perhaps only apparent. Here live two families who have looked at each other like earthenware dogs for a long time. On one side, there is the house occupied by Jean-Paul Harispe, a hardened bachelor who watches alone over his bedridden 83-year-old mother.
On the other, there is the house where the brothers Pierre and Pierre-Paul Mugular live.
The two valiant farmers are struggling tirelessly to perpetuate the farm inherited from their ancestors. Small geographical detail to get to the family sheepfold, Pierre, the eldest of the Mugular brothers, must take early every morning and late every evening, the three tarred roads, which serve the modest gate giving access to the House of Harispe. A daily passage which seems to displease the master of the place, Jean-Paul, without anyone really knowing why since it is a communal road open to all. It must be said that the fifties has plenty of time to scrutinize the passage of time. Nestled behind the window of his dining room, victim of a serious work accident three decades ago, when he was only 22 years old, this farmer by trade is reduced to disability. His mobility is laborious, as he can no longer move without his crutches. Jean-Paul therefore fills his days as best he can, reading his newspaper, preparing the meal and caring for his elderly mother. Among the Harispes, apart from the postman, the baker and sometimes the family doctor, you never see anyone. The time is long, very long.
