1. The federal emergency brake comes into force
The new Infection Protection Act has cleared the last hurdles. It happened to the Federal Council on Thursday, was signed by the Federal President and published in the Federal Law Gazette that evening.
New restrictions: In counties and cities with a seven-day incidence of over 100 in the past three days, the emergency brake will automatically apply from Saturday, explained the Federal Ministry of the Interior. As a rule, it is no longer possible to leave your own apartment after 10 p.m. Only one household may meet with one other person. Shops are only allowed to open to customers who present negative corona tests and have booked appointments. And classroom teaching in schools is to be stopped at an incidence of 165. “I am aware that the popularity of the emergency brake is limited,” said Chancellor Angela Merkel. “But we need them as breakwaters for the third wave.”
Vaccinations for everyone: From June onwards it shouldAccording to Health Minister Jens Spahn, it is no longer necessary to adhere to the previously applicable sequence of corona vaccinations. The prioritization could possibly become obsolete even earlier. For the active ingredient of Astra-Zeneca, there is no longer such a prioritization in the medical practices in Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Bavaria and soon also in Berlin. In the summer of 2020, Wirecard filed for bankruptcy after the company was said to have falsified balance sheets for years. So far, nobody has taken political responsibility for the scandal. With the questioning of Angela Merkel, the committee of inquiry has now come to an end.
Angela Merkel: The Chancellor campaigned for Wirecard during a trip to China in September 2019. Even before the survey, government spokesmen stated several times that Merkel had no knowledge of any serious irregularities at Wirecard at the time of the trip. The opposition sees it differently: Merkel has “lobbied for Wirecard in China despite internal warnings and public reporting (…)”.
