The family of Adil, killed in Anderlecht, requests the appointment of an investigating judge

The lawyer for the family of Adil, a young man who died at the end of a chase with the police on Friday evening in Anderlecht, asked the Brussels prosecutor’s office for the appointment of an investigating judge to investigate the circumstances of the accident.

As a family lawyer, I ask that the prosecution put this file to trial, without the family having to do this. An examining magistrate must be appointed, who is an independent judge who can examine the prosecution and the defense. In these circumstances concerning the death of a young person implicating the police, it must be an investigating judge who conducts the investigation in complete independence“Alexis Deswaef said on Monday. Two files are currently open at the Brussels prosecution, one for nasty traffic obstruction and the other for the taxi accident.

Facing a police vehicle

At around 9 p.m. on Friday evening, a patrol from the Brussels-South police zone chased two young men on a scooter, near Council Square in Anderlecht, who had fled when they saw them coming towards them. Another police patrol, called in for reinforcement, then arrived by car in the opposite direction, on the Quai de l’Industrie.

One of the scooters passed a van, according to the prosecution, and therefore found himself facing the police vehicle. He hit him head on. The driver of the scooter, a young Anderlechtois named Adil, 19 years old, died instantly.

Following these events, riots broke out in Anderlecht Saturday and overnight from Saturday to Sunday, causing serious damage to vehicles, police buildings and street furniture. A hundred people were arrested, most of them administrative.
