the expert explained what is most important for Ukraine’s victory in the war – tsn.ua

The expert spoke about the four fronts of the war and their significance.

War Ukraine is being fought on at least four fronts. Everyone can be decisive.

Carsten Friis, a senior fellow at the Norwegian Foreign Policy Institute, writes about it in a column for a Norwegian newspaper Often.

In his opinion, the consequences of the war in Ukraine launched by Putin will leave deep traces in Europe and in the world for future generations.

Friis stressed that the Russians are waging a war against the Ukrainians on four fronts, each of which is of paramount importance, and by losing on one, there is a risk that the Russian Federation will gain an advantage.

“Therefore, it is important for us to understand that this war is taking place not only in the south and east of Ukraine. It is being fought on at least four fronts, each of which can be decisive for the outcome of the war,” stressed l ‘expert.

Karsten Friis names the following fronts:

  • Battlefield. The first and most obvious is, of course, the front on the battlefield.
  • People. The second front is the Ukrainian people.
  • west. The third front is the West and Western unity.
  • Kremlin. The fourth front is the Kremlin and Moscow / elites and Russians.

Speaking of the second front, the author explains that the Russian strategy in recent weeks has been to terror bomb civilian infrastructure to make the Ukrainian population suffer during the winter months.

“The idea should be that Ukrainians will either give up the fight out of frustration or blame their own government. Perhaps even Russian President Vladimir Putin hopes to create new waves of refugees in Europe. So far, there is little evidence that this strategy works.. There are also no signs of war weariness and longing for peace talks, for example. To start peace talks now would mean ceding the territory to Putin“, says the expert.

As for the West, according to Friis, Russia has been trying to divide it since the first invasion in 2014. According to him, Putin hopes high gas and electricity prices will force political leaders to back down because it will be difficult for Europe’s political leaders to maintain unity. At the same time Friis points this out they showed surprisingly large unity.

“Influencing operations, digital operations, the use of economic tools, murders, pressure and lies were all part of the repertoire… However, since February this year, Europe and the United States have been united as never before,” he stressed.

As for the situation inside the Kremlin, despite various statements, according to Friis, “nothing indicates that Putin’s position is threatened both on the street and inside the Kremlin”.

“The outcome of Russia’s bloody invasion of Ukraine can be resolved on all four of these fronts. At the same time, what happens on the battlefield still matters most, even to outcomes on other fronts. If Ukraine loses on the most important front, then it doesn’t matter, or only the West, if the Ukrainian will to fight remains,” the expert explains.

In summary, he explained, avoiding this is absolutely important to the outcome of the war permanent unit of the West and support for armaments in the form of heavy and long-range weapons.

Call back This was stated by Oleksiy Danilov, secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine before spring-summer we are unlikely to have such a holiday as Victory. But, according to him, “it will definitely be in our way.”
