The Eternals: Captain America was supposed to appear at the end of the Marvel movie

The writers of the movie “The Eternals” have revealed that Captain America, a well-known Marvel superhero, is scheduled to make an appearance in the film’s final post-credits scene.

Walt Disney Pictures

Like all Marvel feature films, The Eternals has two post-credits scenes. The first announces the arrival of a new superhero, the second a character already known recovers a powerful artifact. And it is this last sequence that could have been very different.

Screenwriters Ryan and Kaz Firpo told The Wrap behind the scenes of this final scene:

We’ve explored about half a dozen versions of this post-credits scene and I think a lot of the process has been wanting to keep doors open.

Among the ideas listed by the two men and on which they admitted having exchanged with the thinking heads of Marvel Studios, we find the meeting of the Eternals with a new team of Avengers or an appearance of Kang the conqueror.

Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors)

Appeared in the final episode of the Loki series, Kang is the upcoming big bad of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne’s third adventure. Except that ultimately, none of these ideas will be retained, and it is the scene with Kit Harington (Dane Whitman) that will ultimately be chosen.

In this sequence, detailed here, a voice rings out from Whitman, who could have been that of an important MCU superhero, already installed in the franchise, as confided. Case Firpo :

I think at one point we talked about having Sam [Wilson], our new Captain America.

The new Captain America (Anthony Mackie) could have appeared in the scene

Recall that since the Marvel Falcon and the Winter Soldier series, Sam Wilson has become the new Captain America since the departure of Steve Rogers for another life far from the starry banner.

The idea was ruled out, and the voice definitely kept, the one we hear in the film, is that of an upcoming Marvel character, which has been confirmed by director Chloe Zhao and Case Firpo and to which we have devoted an article.

To review this post-credits sequence, you will have to return to witness the battle of the Eternals against the Deviants and their rebellion against the Celestials.
