The Egyptian Medicines Authority: There is no objection to using ibuprofen to treat the symptoms of corona

The Egyptian Medicines Authority confirmed that, according to what has been monitored by reports issued by several international regulatory bodies, including the report of the European Medicines Agency “EMA” and the British Health Services Authority “NHS”, there is no scientific evidence that prevents the use of ibuprofen in the treatment of symptoms associated with the emerging corona disease (COVID). 19.

The report of the Pharmacovigilance Center at the Egyptian Medicines Authority included the following:

There is no scientific evidence on the relationship of ibuprofen use and the increased risk of injury and deterioration of Covid 19 cases, according to what was published by the European Medicines Agency EMA on 3/18/2020 and the British Health Services Authority (NHS) on 3/17/2020 in this regard.

Paracetamol is best used in cases of pain and high temperature, according to what the NHS and the regulatory authority in France indicated.

Taking into account all available treatments in case of infection with COVID 19 virus, including paracetamol and NSAIDs, as indicated by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

The pharmacy alertness was concluded after observation and study that it is preferable to use paracetamol as an antipyretic as a first option before using NSAIDs, including ibuprofen, as there is no study to prevent the use of NSAIDs with viruses with the exception of aspirin in children.

The Egyptian Medicines Authority appeals to citizens to review health service providers in this regard and take all necessary precautions to confront and prevent the spread of the new Corona virus “Covid 19”.
