The economy pulled sharply, exports grew by 60% per month

Outside the EU, Bulgaria actively trades with 7 countries

The economy continues to recover from the crisis caused by the pandemic. At least this is shown by the data on Bulgaria’s foreign trade this year.

Exports to the EU in April alone increased by an impressive 59.7% compared to the same period last year and amounted to BGN 3.904 billion, according to data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI).

In the period January-April, exports increased by 21.7% on an annual basis and amounted to BGN 14.253 billion. Imports also increased – from the EU by 19.8%, reaching 14.196 billion. In April alone increased by 56.7% and is worth BGN 3.596 billion.

Bulgaria’s foreign trade balance with the EU in the period January – April 2021 is positive and amounts to BGN 56.9 million.

For January – May 2021 the export of goods from Bulgaria to third countries has increased by a little over 12% compared to the same period last year and amounts to BGN 8.742 billion. The main trade partners of our country are Turkey, China, the United States, Serbia, Britain, Northern Macedonia and the Russian Federation, which account for 56% of Bulgaria’s exports to third countries.

Bulgaria’s foreign trade balance with third countries in the period January-May is negative and amounts to BGN 2.538 billion, according to national statistics.

In May 2021 the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries increased by 34.4% compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to 1, 725 Billion BGN.

Imports of goods to Bulgaria from third countries in the period January – May 2021 increased by 20.2% and amounted to BGN 11.280 billion.

The largest is the value of goods imported from Turkey, the Russian Federation, China and Ukraine. Imports from third countries in May increased by 41.2% compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to BGN 2.310 billion.

In the period January-May, a total of BGN 26.355 billion worth of goods were exported from Bulgaria, which is 19.4% more than in the same period of 2020. In May alone, total exports amounted to BGN 5.084 billion and increased by a little over 32% compared to the same month last year.

Imported goods in Bulgaria in the period January – May amounted to BGN 29.158 billion, or by 23.1% more compared to the same period in 2020. Only in May the total import of goods increased by 46.7% compared to the same month of the previous year and amounts to BGN 5.991 billion.

Bulgaria exports goods mainly to Germany, Romania, Italy, Greece, Belgium and France. They account for 70.9% of exports to EU Member States.

Imports of goods from the EU in the period January – April 2021 increased by 19.8% compared to the same period in 2020 and amounted to BGN 14.197 billion. Most goods are imported from Germany, Romania, Italy, Greece, Hungary and the Netherlands.
