The eagerly awaited experimental village of tiny houses in Rezé will finally see the light of day

To create, very close to Nantes, the first experimental village of tiny houses in France. At the end of 2019, the former socialist town hall of Rezé
had caused a sensation with its original proposal around this mode of ecological habitat, more and more popular in France. With a year late and several modifications of the initial project, these wooden mini-houses mounted on wheels and equipped with everything necessary to live comfortably will finally land. “It is imminent, announces to 20 Minutes the town hall of Rezé. If all goes well, the first installations will take place around mid-December. “

Initially planned on a plot in Les Bourderies, which was finally too humid, it was further south, on a smaller wooded lot (3,600 m², located rue de la Maillardière), that the astonishing village was to emerge. Four households, some of which built their own tiny houses, were selected after a call for applications. Reunited in a free trade union association, they will be able to stay there for a minimum of 5 years and up to ten years, for a rent still to be defined, but which should be around 300 euros. “These people obviously have a strong environmental sensitivity, we took the time to receive them to find out their expectations,” explains Jean-Louis Gaglione, deputy mayor (Rezé citizen) for the environment. They were eight at the start but some gave up. With the change of municipality, the Covid, the authorizations, the project has stagnated a bit… ”

Technical constraints

Because in addition to agreeing on the creation of two common areas (a yurt-type structure and a garage transformed into a laundry area) and a parking area, we also had to deal with certain technical constraints. Even if the majority of the inhabitants will be equipped with solar panels, rainwater collectors, and all dry toilets, the site has been serviced and a solution for the treatment of wastewater, “as natural as possible, in connection with the philosophy of the project ”, had to be imagined. “The metropolis has authorized us to derogate from collective sanitation,” says one to the building management. The treatment will be done using reeds planted in a basin, a phyto-purification process in which the occupants will participate. »A composting area is also planned.

The town hall, which is organizing a public meeting next week, promises to closely follow this experiment on this land “whose condition will remain almost the same” and this even if a dismantling is finally decided, in 2031. “Always under the watch regulations, we will also be interested in how to use these mini-houses for other populations, says Jean-Louis Gaglione. It is an attractive possibility for emergency housing. “Near Lyon, this is already the choice made by
Villeurbanne : in the spring, 17 of these bungalows were installed on municipal land to accommodate single mothers in difficulty.
