the driver tries to sow the customs officers

The two friends are early in the morning. They were spotted by car on May 3 on the A31 near Thionville, around 8 a.m. Customs activate their vehicle’s light signal and ask the driver of the Clio to stop. The latter seems to fall back but gives a steering wheel at the last moment. The chase starts, continues on a departmental road. The officers describe the dangerous driving of the fugitive, the endangering of other road users. In the end, the Clio takes a path, comes across a dead end on the edge of the forest and ends up in a field. The driver can maneuver, he is trapped.

And he starts again the next day …

The young man was not rushing for nothing. Customs got their hands on 21 kilos of cigarettes and 9 kilos of roll-your-own tobacco, stashed in the car. The two friends aboard the Clio, originally from the Aisne near Château-Thierry, are arrested. The passenger explains that he advanced the money to pay for tobacco at a lower price in Luxembourg before reselling it in France. The driver knew the route. It is not the first time that he has engaged in this type of trafficking. Moreover, this arrest did not prevent him from being caught again by the same brigade the next day with a kilo of rolling tobacco in the car.

Customs fine of € 15,000

He was present at the bar of the Thionville criminal court on Tuesday, September 21. Already known to the courts for refusals to comply in particular, he added a ninth mention to his record and was sentenced to eight months in prison. Employed as a machine operator, he will be placed under electronic surveillance in order to continue working. His sidekick, also known to the services, was however absent from the discussions. This time it takes four months and a summons before the judge responsible for the execution of sentences. Thirty-year-olds will have to pay, jointly and severally, a customs fine of 15,000 euros, the market value in France of the 30 kilos of tobacco seized in the Clio.
