Now the organizers of the National Book Awards ceremony have announced that they are withdrawing the invitation to Barrymore to host the ceremony planned for Friday.
“The National Book Awards is an evening dedicated to celebrating the power of literature and the invaluable contribution writers make to our culture,” the statement said.
“In light of the announcement of the resumption of production of The Drew Barrymore Show, the National Book Foundation is withdrawing its invitation to Ms. Barrymore to host the 74th National Book Awards [Ņujorkā]”, the organizers said.
The heads of the National Book Foundation have previously praised Barrymore for covering literary themes on the show.
CBS previously confirmed that there would be no input from writers on Barrymore’s show, which is subject to strike demands by the Screenwriters Guild of America (WGA).
Barrymore can also host her show because she is not an actress, but a television host, and her professional role is not subject to the terms of the actors’ strike, Variety reported.
