The Dramatic Season Finale of Bundesliga: Dortmund’s Loss and Bayern’s Championship

Even though it was almost four months ago, the dramatic season finale of the Bundesliga is still very present. Dortmund lost their lead in the table on matchday 34 in the home game against FSV Mainz 05 and FC Bayern became champions thanks to a goal from Jamal Musiala.

BVB player Julian Ryerson experienced the failure first hand, as the full-back was in the starting line-up and was substituted in the 79th minute.

In an interview within the club, the Norwegian initially explained: “I absorbed everything around it. But I can’t and don’t want to say that much about it.”

But then he continued: “After the game, like everyone else, I was lost in myself. Sometimes things like this happen. Only that was the worst possible moment for it. That hurt a lot.”

When asked whether it would still hurt to this day, the 25-year-old emphasized again that he couldn’t and didn’t want to say anything more about it.

“I tried to put the day away and process it. I always feel bad when I think about it. It keeps coming up. That’s why it’s generally very difficult to talk about my first six months in Dortmund,” added Ryerson, who moved from Union Berlin to BVB in January.

The full-back justified it by saying that although he had taken a step forward for himself personally by being allowed to play in the Champions League and getting many appearances in the Bundesliga, the team still “experienced huge disappointment” at the end of last season .

At the same time, he assured: “If you only think logically – and not emotionally – then it was a good year for me personally. But I’m never satisfied. I always want more, I’m hungry and I want to improve. We will attack again.”

He also emphasized that the team had drawn the right conclusions from the season finale. “We showed that we can attack.”
