Ronaldo also briefly stopped by Ferguson and former captain Bryan Robson at the club’s restaurant ahead of a meeting with the Red Devils management at 11.30.

Ferguson and Robson were in Carrington for a scheduled lunch with chief executive Richard Arnold and David Gill, the club’s former CEO.

It is believed that Arnold will then meet with Mendes to discuss the future of the megastar, but Setah Merah is not willing to explain in detail the purpose of the talks between the two parties.

Mendes was impressed by Arnold’s approach and willingness to listen. Also, there was an attempt by Arnold to convince Ronaldo to stay, because the club’s attitude from the start was clear: they wanted Ronaldo to stay.

Even so, Man United’s desire did not prevent Mendes from finding his client a new club, where Ronaldo has recently been widely associated with Real Madrid’s eternal rivals, Atletico Madrid.

However, last Tuesday night, Atletico president Enrique Cerezo dismissed the prospect and stated that the club would not seek the signing of Ronaldo.

Man United will face Wrexham behind closed doors on Wednesday, but Ronaldo is unlikely to be involved in that match.

Last month, Ronaldo publicly stated his desire to leave because he was not used to playing in the Europa League and was reluctant to experience the second tier competition. His target has never changed: join a team competing in the Champions League, because his ambition has always been to finish at the top.

Ronaldo was then given time off due to family problems and Man United traveled for 17 days in Thailand and Australia without the superstar present.

The club returned last Sunday evening, along with the news that Ronaldo will also return in the near future. With his private jet, Ronaldo flew from Madrid on Monday (25/7) at 09.30 pm and arrived in Carrington the next morning.

If Ronaldo does end up staying at Old Trafford, ten Hag will still need to keep him fit and it will likely be difficult to get him straight into the first team.

However, ten Hag’s communication with Ronaldo went smoothly before the tour.

“I speak well,” said ten Hag.

“This is between Cristiano and me. What I can confirm is that we had a very good conversation,” he explained.

Even if Ronaldo stays, ten Hag has made it clear that he still needs someone attacker new. Man United is currently eyeing winger Brazil, Antony, who is priced at Ajax of £ 68 million.
