The diver who was missing since yesterday in the “Zenovia” wreck was found dead

The diver, aged 66, who was missing since yesterday Thursday when he dived with his colleague in the “Zenovia” wreck in the sea area of ​​Larnaca, was found dead this morning.

In a statement from the Search and Rescue Coordination Center (SRC) it is stated that “as part of the E-D operation in the sea area of ​​Larnaca Bay, to locate a missing diver, who had dived in the wreck “Zenovia”, the man was found inside the wreck without , unfortunately vital signs. The operation was completed around 11am this Friday” and the diver, aged 66, was located in the engine room of the vessel.

It is added that “teams of experienced wreck divers from the Coast and Marine Police, the Police Air Operations Unit and the National Guard Underwater Disaster Unit participated in the long underwater search. Specialist groups from private diving schools also participated voluntarily in the investigations”.

The announcement also states that “due to the high risk of underwater research operations, the KSED expresses its thanks to the volunteer groups involved, who responded immediately and cooperated with full professionalism in locating the unfortunate diver.”

The missing man was found around 10.45 in the morning and ten minutes later he was pulled to the surface of the sea, transferred to the port of Larnaca and then to the General Hospital of the city.

It is noted that in the morning a wide-ranging meeting was held at KSED in the presence of the involved Services and Departments during which an analysis was made of the points of the vessel, approximately 42 meters deep, where they were searched yesterday.

The visual material of the camera brought by the second diver who emerged and informed about the fate of his colleague was also analyzed. From the visual material it became clear that the two divers had made signs between themselves to rise to the surface, but it seems that the second one did not succeed.
