The Disastrous Consequences of Failing to Support Ukraine: Zelenskyj Pleads for More Aid

In the long term, it could be disastrous if the US does not continue to support Ukraine, as Joe Biden has promised.

The military support to Ukraine has become the victim of an undignified political game in both Europe and the USA. In the short term, this is very unfortunate for the Ukrainians’ legitimate resistance struggle. In the long term, it is disastrous, as it could strengthen Russia’s ability and willingness to threaten several neighboring countries.

Zelenskyj pleads with EU leaders: – Don’t let Ukraine down

Da President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyj visited Oslo last week, the Norwegian authorities maintained that the already significant support to the war-torn country is maintained and strengthened. Zelenskyj came directly to Norway from the USA. There, President Joe Biden’s promises of more Ukraine support are blocked by the Republican Party, which wants promises of stricter immigration policy in return.

That this plain is not the time for domestic political games, does not seem to bother the Republicans significantly. The new speaker of the House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson, has called for a clear plan for how Ukraine can win the war. As of today, the war is characterized by standstill. The Ukrainian counteroffensive has not been particularly effective. The front lines have moved little over time.

Zelenskyj: Hundreds of thousands have been killed because of Putin’s delusions

It is nevertheless extremely important that Ukraine can still stand up to the Russian military power. Vladimir Putin reiterated last week that his goals are exactly the same as when the war started. The so-called denazification is an absurd and made-up term. In practice, this means a change of regime in Kyiv. Experts also point out that Putin is now very keen not to lose face after a year and a half of high Russian death tolls. No desire for peace can be traced.

Nor Hungary’s right-wing populist Prime Minister Viktor Orban – known for his friendly attitude towards Putin – goes off the path of simple tactics. Last week he blocked an aid package for Ukraine from the EU system and bragged about it afterwards. Fortunately, most EU leaders are positive about more Ukraine aid.

Zelenskyj: – Received positive signals in the USA

With less help from Western countries, some fear that the war will turn into a dense and demanding guerrilla war in urban areas. It will be even more disastrous for the Ukrainian civilian population.
