The director of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE), Santiago Muñoz Machado, has admitted that inclusive language disfigures language in an “unsustainable” way but he has also predicted that he will end up joining if there is a commitment from all to use it. “Including terms like ‘others, others or others’ spoil our language in a truly unsustainable way, “he said.

Muñoz Machado recalled that the RAE studied last year, at the request of the Vice President of the Government, if the Spanish Constitution was “macho” –inasmuch as all public offices were designated in masculine terms- where they made it clear that the masculine is “inclusive” and also refers to women.

This was stated during his participation in the ICAM Justice forum, in which the dean of the Madrid Bar Association, José María Alonso Puig, the president of the General Council of the Judiciary, Carlos Lesmes, also participated. and the journalist Verónica Sanz, in charge of moderating the event.

On the other hand, the director of the RAE has pointed out that, just as you cannot take away their technical language from doctors and economists, “neither from jurists.” Thus, it has recognized that the language of law is a “techno language”, which incorporates words “not very common”, but which are not “very different from common use” at the same time that it has added that it was “necessary” to prepare a legal dictionary since throughout history it has been accused of “obscurity in its terminology”. In this sense, he has assured that he will “continue working” on improving the legal dictionary hand in hand with the Madrid Bar Association.

For his part, the president of the General Council of the Judiciary, Carlos Lesmes, thanked the director of the Royal Academy of Language for the idea of ​​preparing a dictionary of legal Spanish. “It has become a great work, which led to the creation of a pan-Hispanic dictionary where the entire Ibero-American world is involved “, he highlighted.
