“I don’t think the babies were intentionally swapped,” said Sheynovo hospital director Dr Rumen Velev.
It became clear that the case of the two exchanged children came from one of the largest AG hospitals in the country – “Sheynovo”.
“An inspection is underway, staff have been questioned and they are puzzled as to exactly how this happened,” Velev commented.
He added that there are still some details that are “slightly disturbing,” but declined to comment while the prosecutor’s office is investigating.
“We have strict protocols and rules by which we describe newborns. We put on bracelets, write down the numbers, compare them at discharge, and it’s hard for me to tell you what exactly happened,” Velev said.
