The above emerges following a statement by Carissa Etienne, director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), that confirmed that Colombia is not on the list of countries that have already started receiving organic products and those that have shown interest in joining the revolving fund to acquire them.
“We know how to track that disease, who are the people most at risk and how to protect people from infection,” Etienne said. And he added that one of the best strategies for containing the virus is vaccination.
To this end, PAHO has enabled the “revolving fund” mechanism, through which vaccines are administered and delivered to affected countries. “PAHO is already delivering vaccines, and despite having unlimited supplies, it’s still important to protect the high-risk community,” the director said.
Faced with this, in a statement released a few weeks ago, the Minister of Health made it clear “We continue to look for other alternatives to acquire organic, according to the precautionary principle”.
Similarly, the portfolio manager stressed that it is important to renegotiate the conditions for the acquisition of these products in a context that allows these processes, given that the smallpox epidemic in the country is openly different from that which occurred during the pandemic of covid. -19, so that all processes comply with the laws and the political constitution of the country.
In this sense, it was also made clear that the outbreak of this disease Although it has increased in cases, it does not have overflows that generate alarms and measures other than those already defined within the public health programs.
