The Diablo IV boss and the game’s boss designer removed from his positions at Blizzard

Blizzard boss J. Allen Brack left his post last week, as a result of the allegations of harassment and discrimination at the World of Warcraft developer. Now more leaders are following, and among them is the boss of Diablo IV.

It was Kotaku who first announced that Luis Barriga had been removed from his position at Blizzard. He was joined by Diablo IV’s chief designer Jesse McCree, and World of Warcraft designer Jonathan LeCraft.

Shortly after the report came out, a spokesperson for Activision Blizzard was able to confirm that this was true. The company failed to give any reason for the dismissals, and only promised that good people were already in place as replacements.

– We have a large number of talented developers who are already in place, and new leaders have been appointed where necessary. We are confident in our ability to continue to make progress, deliver incredible experiences for our players and move forward to create a safe and productive workplace for all, the statement said.

Overwatch fans want a name change

In the wake of the lawsuit, Jesse McCree was singled out as one of several Blizzard people linked to the infamous “Cosby Suite”, which is at the center of several of the allegations of sexual harassment. He has also given his name to the Overwatch character McCree, and many fans now want a name change.

And it’s not just the fans. The website Dexter reported this week that commentators for Overwatch’s e-sports league refused to use the name McCree. Instead, they referred to the character as the “cowboy” or just the name of the player who used him.

In other Blizzard-related news, the developer announces that Diablo II: Resurrected is ready for open beta testing. Those who have pre-ordered the refurbishment can play from 13 August, while everyone else is released until the following week, ie 20 August.
