The Seleção will have to do without, for the moment, the star player Neymar and full-back Danilo at the World Cup in Qatar. Neymar, 30, will miss Brazil’s next group match against Switzerland on Monday with ligament damage in his right ankle, team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar said in Doha on Friday. The same goes for right-back Danilo, who also suffered an ankle injury in the 2-0 win against Serbia.
“But they remain in treatment for the World Cup,” Lasmar said. It is not yet clear how long the two professionals will be out. Brazilian media unanimously reported that the entire group stage was over for both. As a result, they would be unable to play Cameroon in a week.

At least for Danilo, who earns his money at Juventus, there seems to be legitimate hope that he could be fit for the round of 16. Neymar’s injury would be a little more serious, but the PSG forward should still be able to play in Qatar, provided Brazil don’t have to return home after the qualifying round.
