Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia Israel and a number of other countries are reportedly developing weapons supported by Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. This has led many countries to urge the UN to create a policy prohibiting this technology from creating drones as murder weapons.

Quoting The Times, Sunday (3/12/2023), Israel clearly opposes this proposal. The United States (US), Russia and Australia also have the same opinion because they want there to be no limits to technological development in the military world.

Austria’s chief negotiator, Alexander Kmentt, stressed that automated weapons could make fundamental changes. Apart from that, it also raises legal and ethical problems.

The US and China are known to be developing AI drones. Reportedly the technology is quite sophisticated because it can detect and aim at targets accurately.

The development of AI drones in the US was reported earlier this year. Quoting Business Insider, the country is preparing thousands of drones for military needs.

The goal is to overcome China’s military strength. The two countries are known to have relations that are not always good.

“We will fight Chinese troops with our troops. However, our troops are more difficult to outsmart, difficult to overthrow, difficult to defeat,” United States (US) Deputy Defense Minister Kathleen Hicks, last August, was quoted as saying by Reuters.

US Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall said AI drones will have the ability to make military decisions with human supervision.

Reportedly AI drones have been used in Ukraine’s war with Russia. But it is unclear how big the impact of the destruction will be.

This report on the development of AI drones occurred when Israel attacked Gaza for some time. Israel agreed to a ceasefire on November 23, then postponed it.
