The desire of the West to maintain its hegemony increases the potential for conflict in the world

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that the West’s desire to maintain its hegemony on the global stage was responsible for heightening the risks of potential conflicts.

He added, “The chances of conflict in the world are increasing and there are direct repercussions for the Western elite’s attempts to maintain its political, financial, military and ideological hegemony by all means.”

Putin made his remarks in a video message released by the Kremlin to a meeting of defense ministers of member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and a group of former Soviet republics.

“They deliberately increase chaos and aggravate the global situation,” Putin said.

He also accused the West of “exploiting” Ukraine and using its people as “cannon fodder” in a conflict with Russia.

Putin has repeatedly described the war in Ukraine as a conflict between Russia and the West, criticizing those who provide financial and military support to Kiev.

Ukraine, European countries and Washington say Moscow has used security concerns as a pretext to launch a war of aggression against its pro-European neighbor in a bid to seize control of its territory and topple its president, Volodymyr Zelensky.
