The designer of Škoda drew an iconic Felicia in a modern coat

The Škoda Felicia, introduced in 1959, is considered one of the most beautiful models by the Mladá Boleslav carmaker. In the modern interpretation, the designer adhered to the open body of the roadster.

The original was inspired by lines and proportions. The passenger compartment is located between the wheels, as was the case with the original, and the long rear overhang and hood length correspond. The ending of the body with “fins”, which connect to the rear lamps, also resembles the original Felicia.

“I tried to use the current pure design language of the brand and make a more modern and unique interpretation of the model at the time,” says Leprince.

“Choosing a convertible was important for me, because with such a car you can see the exterior and interior at the same time. People buy cars because of the exterior, but then most of the time they see its interior, both are beautifully connected in a convertible, ”the designer continues.

It attracts the “floating” windshield, which floats in a space a few centimeters above the body and is bent inwards into the interior, where it forms the instrument panel and infotainment display. At the same time, the upholstery extends to the body panels.

French designer Martin Leprince has been working at Škoda Auto since 2017, participating in Vision X, Vision RS or Vision iV studies.

Between 1959 and 1964, a total of 14,863 Škoda Felicia units came off the production line of the Kvasiny plant. The in-line petrol four-cylinder gave an output of 37 kilowatts, 50 horsepower, from a volume of less than 1.1 liters. In 1961 came the facelift and 2 horses more powerful engine. A year later, the Super version with a 1.2-liter and 41 kW engine, 55 hp.
