The descent into hell by David Arquette

Drug and alcohol addictions, anxiety disorders, serial professional disappointments … David Arquette exorcises the demons of his past in You Cannot Kill David Arquette, a brand new documentary presented at Fantasia.

” I’m fine. Very well, even, assures David Arquette on the phone. But there was a time when everyone seemed to hate me and I couldn’t understand why. That was difficult. “

This “time” dates back to the year 2000. Inflated by the shooting of the film Ready to Rumble, the actor decided to try his luck in the world of wrestling.

Just weeks after his first appearance in the ring, David Arquette won the World Championship Wrestling championship. A controversial crowning achievement that has offended professional wrestling fans, in addition to tainting both his reputation and his career.

“I am an actor first and foremost. But I’ve always loved wrestling. I trained seriously. I took it very seriously. So I didn’t understand why everyone hated me. This is where I thought of making this documentary in order to better understand all this hatred, ”he explains.

“An open book”

And that’s what he did. But along the way, he also took the opportunity to free himself from his past marked by trials, in particular because of his anxiety disorders and his dependence on alcohol and illicit substances.

That, David Arquette wanted to show in this documentary, having always been particularly transparent on these subjects.

“I’m kind of an open book. I don’t like secrets, lies and secrecy. I hate having to pretend. And we can’t talk enough about all these disorders, especially those related to mental health. I hope it can help break taboos and encourage people to seek help when they need it, ”he says.

Sheriff Dewey to the rescue

With David Arquette on the phone, it’s hard not to take the opportunity to discuss Scream 5, the next chapter in the popular horror saga announced recently. The actor will reprise his role as Sheriff Dewey Riley, alongside Courteney Cox.

Following the death of Wes Craven – from a brain tumor in 2005 – it was directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Ready or Not) which will slip behind the camera.

“It will be very sad to come back to Scream without him. But we are lucky to be able to honor his memory and continue his legacy, ”David Arquette cautiously advances.

Obviously bound by contract, the actor can not reveal more. But he admits to hoping that Neve Campbell (the heroine of the first four chapters) will be there, even if the Canadian has not yet signed a contract.

“It wouldn’t be the same without her,” he drops.

The documentary You Cannot Kill David Arquette will premiere online Monday night at 7:30 p.m. The actor also stars in 12 Hour Shift, presented online tonight at 9:30 p.m., then Thursday at 11:30 p.m.
