The Delta Variant Spreads, Californians Are Asked to Wear Masks : Okezone News

CALIFORNIA – Of California, public health officials The Angels County urges people to wear face mask when in an enclosed space in a public place. This is to handle the upgrade delta variant Covid-19 case, which spread rapidly in the state. The warning also applies to those who have been vaccinated.

Just two weeks after California authorities lifted most of the coronavirus-related restrictions, health officials in the state are appealing to people to wear masks in public because of the delta variant that is spreading. The warning appeared on the Los Angeles Department of Health’s Twitter account on June 28.

The call confused and irritated many Los Angeles residents. However, many followed the appeal because they were worried about the new variant of the corona virus.

In May, only about four percent of those who contracted Covid-19 had the delta variant. In June, that figure rose to 14.5 percent.

“This variant of the virus is much more contagious than, say, the common flu. The nature of this new variant of the delta is more like a human protein. That is why this variant is so contagious. ” Terang dr. Alexander Ljubimov at Cedars-Sinai Hospital.

According to experts, the delta variant is especially dangerous for those who have not been vaccinated or have only received one of two doses of the vaccine. Those who have been fully vaccinated but have a chronic disease or weakened immune system are also susceptible to infection.

That’s why the Los Angeles county government is urging people to start wearing masks again.

Timothy Brewer, professor of epidemiology at the University of California Los Angeles, can understand the appeal.

“In my opinion, the advice that people, even those who are vaccinated, wear masks indoors is because we know that most of the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 occurs indoors. The risk of contracting the virus while outside, especially when maintaining physical distance, is very low. But indoors, if we are with other people, close together, especially for a long time, then transmission is more likely, and wearing a mask will help prevent transmission,” he said.

Unlike in some other states, nearly half of all California residents are fully vaccinated. The high vaccination rates lead experts to believe that there will be no more lockdowns there.

In the US, more than 154 million people have been fully vaccinated.
