JAKARTA – The difference between the Russian fighter jets made by Sukhoi and Mikoyan is very striking. However, even though they are different, they both have a common thread, which is equally deadly.
Russian fighter jets, formerly the Soviet Union, have been famous since the era of World War I and II, especially those made by Sukhoi and Mikoyan.
Mikoyan fighter jets, which are often called MiG, were known first, but Sukhoi, which appeared recently, has a reputation that is no less frightening.
So what is the difference between the Russian fighter jets made by Sukhoi and Mikoyan? The following reviews are summarized from various sources, Wednesday (16/8/2023).
1. Manufacturing
The first difference between the Russian fighter jets made by Sukhoi and Mikoyan is of course the manufacturer. Sukhoi was designed and manufactured at the Sukhoi Design Bureau (OKB-51), which was founded by Pavel Sukhoi. The designator commonly used for the bureau’s fighter aircraft is Su.
Meanwhile, Mikoyan’s Russian fighter jet was created by the Mikoyan design bureau. The designator commonly used for the fighter aircraft produced by this bureau is the MiG. Apart from the different design bureaus, the production plants of the two aircraft manufacturers are also different. Sukhoi are produced at the Komsomolsk na Amur plant for the SU-27SM/SKM, SU-33, SU-27KUB, Superjet 100, Su-57 and SU-30 series and Irkuts for the SU-30 series. While the MiG is produced in Sokol, Nizhny Novgorod.
Russian fighter planes do have short distinctive names, namely MiG, Su, Tu, Yak, and Il. These planes were produced by different manufacturers, before finally the different design bureaus were united, in one corporation called the United Aircraft Corporation, aka UAC.
