The Czech Republic will be represented in Eurovision by “Slavic feminists” with a Russian

In its national selection, the Czech Republic has chosen to send the girl ensemble “Vesna” to the big “Eurovision” with the song “My Sister’s Crown”. It is a folk group founded six years ago in Prague with six ladies. One of them is Russian, and people on social networks judge how ethical her participation in “Eurovision” is.

A fast, danceable song with the influence of folk music and Balkan rhythms – this can describe the song “Vesna”, which united six feminist-minded women. Vesna is the goddess of fertility in Slavic mythology and represents spring in several Slavic languages.

The leader of the group is the Czech Patricia Fuksova, the musicians Bara Shustkova and Marketa Vedralova are also Czech, Tereza Chepkova is Slovak, Tanita Yankovova is from Bulgaria, the music and lyrics of the song were handled by the Ukrainian Katerina Vachenko, and Olesya Ochepovska from Russia also plays in the group.

According to the Czech press, Očepovska has been living in Prague for a long time, and her social network profiles show that she condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Previously, there were rumors that Olesya’s husband was allegedly fighting in the Russian army, but they turned out to be just rumors.

“Vesna” soloist Patricija said in her statement on “Instagram” that their song “My Sister’s Crown” is a tribute to Ukraine. “Ukraine is currently going through very difficult times, and we wanted to express our support for it with this song,” explains the singer.

“Vesna” honors the Slavic traditions that unite 13 different nations in total. The ladies stand for empathy, solidarity, mutual humanity and support specifically among Slavic women.

In the video for the song, they show a “Slavic kingdom where love flows and everyone is united”, but then dark clouds gather over “Slavia”. Nations that were very close until recently are no longer so. The girls sing that “the crown is yours and no one will take it from you, our beautiful sister”. The piece is sung in English, Czech, Bulgarian and Ukrainian.“Vesna” felt very happy about the victory in the national selection. “We have been doing music since childhood,” said Fuksova and added that she feels very ready to represent her country in Eurovision.

The Czech Republic will appear in the first semi-final, in which Latvia will also compete.

We remind you that the competition will be held in May in Liverpool, England. Although the Ukrainians won Eurovision last year, the European Broadcasting Association decided not to hold a concert there due to security concerns.
