First unsuccessful participations (2008-2009)

During the 2007-2008 season, OL secured their first Champions League semi-final. Facing the Swedes of Umea, the step is however too high and the European adventure stops at this stage of the competition. The Lyonnaises are eliminated without having lost in this double confrontation (0-0 in the first leg, 1-1 in the return, at Gerland). The following year, they failed again against the MSV Duisbourg4 goals to 2 over the two matches.

Cape crossed and first finals (2010 – 2013)

In 2010, the teammates of Camille Abily (24 years old), finally pass the course during the 60e club anniversary. Revanchists, our Lyonnaises find Umea in the last four of the competition. After a victorious first leg, Les Fenottes resisted the comeback and qualified for the first European final in OL’s history (3-2 then 0-0). However, they fail against Potsdam on penalties (0-0, 7-6 on pens)

After this first failure in the final, the players of Patrice Lairchained 3 other victories in the last four of the competition, against Arsenal (2-0, 2-3), Potsdam (5-1,0-0) et Juvisy (3-0,1-6). In 6 participations in the Women’s Champions League, the Lyonnaises reached the semi-finals each time, and won the competition twice, in 2011 and 2012.

Return to the last four and start of European hegemony (2016-2020)

Qualification was won in the first leg after a collective demonstration (7-0, then 0-1 in the second leg). Lyon’s hegemony in Europe continued for five years. Les Fenottes achieved a historic quintuplet. Wendie Renard’s teammates mark a setback during the 2020-2021 season. Eliminated by PSG in the quarter-finals, they will not participate in the last four of the Women’s Champions League, a first since 2016.

The women’s team is once again meeting Paris Saint Germain for one of the most anticipated matches of the season.
