The covid and flu vaccine, starting next Monday

The vaccination of the fourth dose against covid-19 and against the flu will generally begin next Monday, October 17, and will take place in the capital, in the provincial hospital, and in the municipalities where there is a health center, both in this space or in another given by the municipal councils.

This process was announced after the organizational meeting in which the regional delegate of the Council, José Francisco Hernández Herrero, the head of Health Care, Isabel Martiño, were present; the medical director of Primary Care, Ana Arconada, and the head of the Territorial Health Service, Luis González Maroto.

After her, in addition to explaining the process, particular emphasis was placed on the importance of vaccinating, especially taking into account that this new dose offers protection against the currently present strain, with two sub-variants of Ómicron, as well as including the previous ones.

For this reason it is recommended to get vaccinated with the fourth dose, scheduled for over 60 years, for which it is estimated that the booster will reach about 52,000 people in Avila, and that it is injected together with the flu vaccine.

So far the vaccination of this fourth dose has been limited to residences for the elderly and people with disabilities, in a process that will end before leaving with the general population and in which 2,500 vaccines (slightly less flu) have already been administered in a population of 3,200 people, also vaccinating 800 workers against influenza and covid.

The general vaccination of the fourth dose will be carried out in the capital at the provincial hospital, for all health centers located in the capital, including Ávila Rural, with the exception of El Barraco and San Juan de la Nava. Health workers and health workers from private health and mutual societies will also be vaccinated here. The rest will be done in the municipalities with health facilities, or in this space or in another one made available by the municipalities, trying, explained the territorial delegate, to make spaces with parking accessible.

In the case of non self-sufficient or immobilized people, it is necessary to contact the referring nurse to set up the vaccination, which can be carried out at home.

In general, five months must have passed since the infection or the previous dose to receive a new dose of the covid vaccine, although this margin is three months in those over 80 years of age.

In addition to these new vaccinations, it is possible to be vaccinated with the first or second dose or with booster doses upon reaching the corresponding age.

In encouraging the population to get vaccinated, Isabel Martiño referred, in addition to the coverage of the new variants, to the fact that with the new dose the effectiveness of the vaccine has increased, especially in the most vulnerable population. As for the flu, you recalled that it is a preventable disease, with effective and safe vaccines.

What was also asked of the population is that official channels, in particular the Castilla y León Health website, can be accessed for information on vaccination.
