This year, the Indy 500 race will take place on Sunday August 23 and it will take place without spectators due to the Covid-19 health crisis. For the occasion, the new Corvette C8 is therefore the new Pace Car, the official driver will be the president of GM, Mark Reuss.

“It is truly an honor to have the opportunity to get behind the wheel of the rear mid-engine Corvette Pace Car in a race as historic as the Indy 500”, said GM Chairman Mark Reuss. “The 2020 Corvette Stingray is the result of close collaboration between the Corvette Racing teams and production engineering, setting a new benchmark for supercars around the world. “

The 2020 Corvette Stingray Pace Car sports a stunning “Torch Red” colorway and is equipped with a spoiler and an imposing rear spoiler. The Z51 Coupe will also wear the 104th Edition Indy 500 livery on the doors. The new 2020 Stingray is capable of accelerating from 0-100 in 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of 312 km / h, so it should have no problem setting the pace for IndyCar single-seaters.

“This is the continuation of our exceptional partnership with Chevrolet”said Indianapolis Motor Speedway President J. Douglas Boles. “We are very grateful for everything Chevrolet has made our events successful. The 2020 Corvette Stingray Torch Red is a world class machine, fast, capable and full of excitement, perfect for the Indy 500.”

Chevrolet has been linked to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with the two entities founded in 1911. Company founder and namesake Louis Chevrolet and his brothers Arthur and Gaston raced in the first 500 mile races with Gaston winning the race in 1920. Today, Louis Chevrolet rests in peace in a local Indianapolis cemetery just 15 minutes from the track.
