Players’ agents criticize FIFA’s proposal
The German Football Players’ Association (DFVV) has criticized the recommendation of the world association FIFA to extend the contract term in the coronavirus crisis. “From my point of view, the recommendation is pure actionism,” said DFVV managing director Gregor Reiter to the German press agency on Wednesday. “The question of the term of contracts is not decided by a world association, but by the contracting parties.” The world association had advocated that contracts should be adapted to the actual course of the currently interrupted season and expected that the guidelines would be “followed worldwide” .
Reiter gave the example of Alexander Nübel, who will move from FC Schalke 04 to Bayern Munich in the summer, to illustrate the problems. “If the season is extended beyond June 30, does he have to play for the old salary at Schalke for another four weeks? Will there be a difference and who will pay it? ”Said the DFVV managing director. “Extending the season could raise many legal questions that need to be answered.” Answering these questions collectively could be difficult. “A recommendation from FIFA is not helpful.” The association of players’ agents claims to have more than 75 members.
The federal leagues have stopped playing until at least April 30. The goal is to complete the season by June 30th. If this does not work, many contracts would probably have to be adjusted.
“If there are reasons preventing a season end on June 30, I think it is possible that those affected would be ready for the Bundesliga to discuss the legal framework of their contracts in order to find solutions there,” said Reiter. “It would be a feat to negotiate this through, but you could do it. I can hardly imagine that for Europe, especially since the pandemic is developing differently in the individual countries and is even more unclear here than in Germany. ” (dpa)
