On Monday, the construction of the first of seven Airport City office buildings the cornerstone was laid. According to the airport authorities, the coronavirus pandemic has had no negative impact on the implementation of the investment, which is expected to be ready in mid-2021.
– I have heard many times that the airport is a play. You don’t have to do anything, and people will fly anyway. COVID-19 has just shown how to play it. For 3.5 months we have 100% costs and neither zloty of revenues. That is why we are building Airport City so that it will be the second leg for us in the future, so that in the event of incidents such as a coronavirus pandemic, the airport will have the opportunity to generate revenues – he said on Monday laying the foundation stone Tomasz Kloskowski, president of the Gdańsk Airport.
The other persons participating in the meeting with the media spoke in a similar tone. Representatives of the Pekao SA bank, which granted the airport a favorable loan for the investment, emphasized that the airport in Gdańsk is a model and a pioneer in planning and implementing bold solutions compared to domestic competition.

Representatives of local governments, who are co-owners of the Airport, added in turn that the airport is a flywheel of the entire agglomeration and is looking into the future to escape competition.
– We don’t have to squeeze as much as possible from a square meter, we don’t have to build high-rise buildings and compact buildings. We are building step by step, we want it to be the beginning of a new district of Gdańsk, from which residents will also benefit, e.g. by using autonomous cars moving in the area. It will be an extraordinary testing ground for our cities, because what works well with us can later function successfully in other parts of the Tri-City – adds Kloskowski.
As the office building begins to leave the ground, intensive work is also underway to commercialize the facility. As we have heard, no contract has been signed yet, but interest in the object is high. The asset of the building is not only great air, road and rail communication, but also the fact that tenants are given open space without rigid imposing of the area per employee. In the era of social distance, this is to help tenants plan their space more efficiently.

Airport City is the name of the business and service complex that is being built in the vicinity of the Gdańsk airport terminal. As part of the plans, office buildings, hotels, service and commercial spaces are to be built here. Together, it will be a modern and attractive part of the city for business, which thanks to the vicinity of the Gdańsk airport will attract tenants from all over the world. The vicinity of the terminal for employees of these buildings is to be a window providing quick connection to the largest business capitals of Europe and the world.
As part of the project, whose investor will be the Airport Lech Wałęsa, seven office and service buildings will be constructed in the vicinity of the passenger terminal in Gdańsk with a total area of 120 tys. nice kw. (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, Foxtrot, Golf, Hotel).
The six-storey Alpha building is being built as the first since the fourth quarter of 2019. Its lease area is 8.5 tys. nice kw. (1,490 sq m net on one floor), and commercial and service premises were designed on its ground floor. Under the building there will be a two-level parking lot for close 200 or (including electric car charging stations). Construction will last until mid-next year and will consume PLN 81 million The contractor is Hochtief Polska.
In the next stage, a six-storey Bravo building (with usable area of 16,500 sq m – 2,700 sq m on one floor, 381 parking spaces) is to be constructed. A recreational alley with a sports section will be created along the entire complex. Employees and local restaurants will also be able to use the garden for growing vegetables and herbs. On the roofs of buildings there will be green routes available for employees from office buildings – they will have a view of the airport apron. Comprehensive infrastructure for cyclists will also be built in the buildings.
Let us remind you that at the beginning of June the foundation stone was also laid on the parallel construction of the pier, which is an extension of the T2 terminal.
