The convicted Slovak billionaire was found in a psychiatric hospital in Prague

Last week, the Senate of the Supreme Court in Slovakia rejected the appeal of Jozef Majský in the case of fraud of so-called “non-banknotes” Horizont Slovakia and BMG Invest. Officials thus confirmed the decision of the Slovak Specialized Criminal Court, which sentenced billionaires to nine years in prison.

However, according to the police, the convict then began to hide. Since Majský had Czech citizenship and was staying in Ostrava at the time, criminal investigators also invited Czech colleagues to cooperate. They found Majský in one of Prague’s hospitals.

“According to the last statement of the attending physician, Majský is not capable of any actions, and therefore he remains hospitalized. Because of this, his person is still being searched,” Slovak police officers write on Facebook.

At the turn of the millennium, Majské owned about fifty Czech and Slovak companies. In the Czech Republic, it is known mainly for leading the Liaz car company to bankruptcy and subsequent liquidation. It focused mainly on the production of trucks.

About twenty years ago, Majský became one of the main figures in the scandal surrounding the non-banking companies BMG Invest and Horizont. Before the crash, they managed to lure almost 63 billion Slovak crowns (over 50 billion CZK) from the people.

According to the portal tvnoviny.sk Majsky was to figure in these frauds as one of the main actors. The indictment was filed against him in 2004. A final verdict fell on Wednesday and Majský was sentenced to nine years in prison.

According to Majský’s lawyer Peter Filip, the court’s actions are illegal. “I will not comment on the court’s decision now. I will use all legal procedures to reverse this decision,” tvnoviny.sk quoted Filip as saying.
