Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Player Persija Jakarta, Muhammad Uchida Sudirman, won a medal in the sport of muaythai in PON Papua 2020 although it was decorated with controversy.

In the semifinals, Uchida who defended DKI Jakarta, faced East Kalimantan athlete, Devan Putra Ananta, at STT Gidi Sports Center, Jayapura Regency on Thursday (30/9).

From the video received by CNNIndonesia.com, Uchida was hit by several hits in the first round until he staggered. In fact, the 2019 SEA Games bronze medal winner fell three times.

In this stressful situation, red towels were thrown into the arena from the corner of DKI Jakarta. The men’s semifinal match in the 73 kilogram fighting class ended with TKO status.

However, moments later, there were instructions from a number of parties, the match had to be resumed for the second and third rounds.

After completing three rounds, Devan was declared victorious and entitled to advance to the final. Not accepting this decision, DKI filed a protest to the jury.

The trial was then held and DKI was declared victorious. Not accepting this surprising decision, the East Kalimantan Muaythai Management filed an appeal against the jury’s decision to the 2020 PON Grand Committee of Judges.

After convening, the PON 2020 Grand Committee of Judges finally determined Devan as the winner. As a result, Devan advances to the final and Uchida will fight for the bronze medal.
