“Speak in public in a clear and convincing manner”, demonstrate his “Public speaking”, “Argue and connect knowledge” … these are some of the ambitions of the great oral, novelty and centerpiece of the “bac Blanquer”. A memo that appears on February 13 at Official Bulletin of national education details its objectives and organization. The grand oral is one of the two “final exams” of the baccalaureate, with philosophy. It will see the light of day with the 2021 session, but must be prepared for the entire terminal cycle – that is, this year, for first graders.
The test is scored out of 20 and scored 10. The jury begins by designating one of the two ” Questions ” prepared during the year. These questions, chosen by the student several months beforehand, are “Backed” to one or other of its specialty subjects, or to these two subjects transversely. The candidate has twenty minutes to prepare his answer.
The pupil is encouraged to “clarify” and “deepen his thought”
The test then takes place in three stages. For five minutes, the student makes his presentation – ” standing “And “Not rated”, specifies the official text. Follow ten minutes of discussion with the jury, where the student is encouraged to “Clarify” and “Deepen your thinking”. The two members of the jury are teachers from outside the school, at least one of whom is in a student’s specialty.
First a formal exercise
The big oral exam is first of all a formal exercise. Among the five evaluation items detailed in the memo, only one “Relates to the quality of knowledge”, underlines Claire Guéville, head of the high school sector at SNES-FSU.
