The Consell de Ibiza will prepare a study on the demand for taxi service

The second vice president and island councilor for Transport, Javier Torres, and the island director for Transport, Roberto Algaba, have agreed with the island’s councilors for Mobility, in a meeting held online today, that the Ibiza Island Council will prepare the study of demand for the taxi service.

“As we raised at the beginning of the legislature, the Department of Transport of the Consell Insular d’Eivissa has proposed to carry out the study of demand for the taxi to radiograph the current situation of the sector from a more objective perspective and limited to reality, a study that was previously carried out by each city council independently ”, Torres and Algaba explained to the councilors of the city councils.

Despite the fact that 2020 and 2021 are marked by the coronavirus, so they cannot be extrapolated to next year, the island’s Minister of Transport has stressed that, in any case, it is “essential” to have this study. “This analysis of the taxi service, together with the projections of the activity of the next year, will be very useful tools to see the needs at the level of fixed and seasonal licenses,” said the second vice president and island councilor for Transport.

Then, from the insular department of Transport they have insisted that, regardless of the results of this study, each city council will decide whether or not it is necessary to expand the number of taxi licenses. “The Consell Insular d’Eivissa considers it convenient to have this global radiography to have an insular vision of the sector and also to know the specific needs of each municipality,” said Torres.

Finally, the councilor and the insular director of Transport have also informed the councilors about the vehicle rental licenses with driver (VTC) that the Consell has been obliged to process by a final judgment of the Supreme Court, as well as the implementation March of a working group between the Consell and the traditional VTC sector of the island to work on a proposal that orders the sector and can be transferred to the Balearic Government.

“The Consell Insular d’Eivissa has already asked the Balearic Government for a regulation that sets the requirements and working conditions for VTCs and thus guarantee that this sector and the taxi sector compete on equal terms. From the island institution we have committed to send you our proposal, which will be agreed with the VTC sector that has been working on our island for decades ”, Torres and Algaba concluded.
