the collective “Corse Sauvons notre Economie” is stepping up

For Corsica, whose economic fragility is already known, a bad tourist season will have serious consequences in all sectors. This is all the more so because, to add, again, to the cyclical difficulty, there is the problem of air service. A point on which, the collective returned, during a meeting which has just ended: ” This year, particularly Corsica will suffer an unprecedented drop in passenger traffic relating to the Covid crisis. Foreign customers will also be in sharp decline, so we will have to rely on local customers, provided we put the odds on our side
And precisely all the chances are not put on the good side: ” However, we have been witnessing for a few days a series of flight cancellations by the various airlines which share the service, whether low-cost or regular. These actions penalize, not only, the hosts who received a certain number of cancellations in the months of June, July and August, but also all the actors which result from the tourist activity, that it is the restaurants, the retail businesses… who note a drop of -50 to -70% of their turnover since the resumption of their activity”.

Moving forward but on an equal footing

Pointed out by the collective, an obvious lack of visibility at all levels: ”When we know that air traffic has surpassed maritime traffic for several years, it would be necessary to ensure our future visitors a certain visibility on the transport offer and on a “harmonious” pricing which is not prohibitive for our destination which already suffers from an accessibility constraint linked to insularity unlike other regions ”.
Therefore the claims target both the programming but also the pricing aspect. At the same time, the collective calls on all partners: ” We demand more transparency on the programming of flights by the different companies, with a guarantee of maintaining the slots offered for sale without risk of cancellation when the flights are not “enough” filled. We also hope on the part of the high authorities of tourism in Corsica, of the support in our approach of request for clarity and a harmonization of the tariffs of transport. We fully adhere to the communication campaign of the various tourist offices… “By plane, by boat, reach the island with confidence”. We would like the actors mentioned there to play the game by ensuring, for example, that a Paris-Figari flight is at the same price as a Paris-Bastia or a Paris-Ajaccio… including answering the phone “
