What happened
In the city of Batumi, on May 26 street, part of a residential building collapsed.
Employees of the Emergency Management Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia removed two people from the rubble of the house, including a child.
The child was in a car parked near the house, which was covered with debris after the collapse. Ambulance doctors took him to the hospital. Another man escaped with minor bruises. It is not known whether there were still people in the house at the time of the explosion.
The evacuation of residents from the rest of the building began.
Causes
Presently two versions of what happened: gas explosion or damage to the load-bearing wall during repair. The house was built in the 80s, in the capital construction of five floors, but two more were added later.
The reaction of the authorities
The head of the Adjara government Tornike Rizhvadze and the head of the Ministry of Health Nino Nizharadze arrived at the scene. They promised to make a statement after reviewing the situation.
According to eyewitnesses, one entrance of the house collapsed. Local residents report hearing cotton prior to the destruction.
