The code in the Linux kernel can cause permanent screen damage on laptops

The LCD screens of several laptops suffered permanent damage after computers were updated to Linux kernel version 5.19.12, reports Ars Technique.

“After reviewing some logs, there are potentially incorrect delays in powering the panel power sequence that can damage the LCD panels,” to write Intel engineer Ville Syrjälä.

His recommendation is that no Intel GPU user should run 5.19.12 of the Linux kernel and revert to an earlier version instead.

At the time of this writing, Linux kernel version 5.19.13 is now also available.

Keep in mind that if you have already suffered permanent damage to your display as a result of 5.19.12, these will unfortunately remain even if you upgrade to an earlier or later version of Linux.
