The city of Würzburg and Markt Reichenberg have signed a cooperation agreement on flood protection. As announced by the city of Würzburg, this involves a common flood protection and retention concept for the Heigelsbach and its tributaries, the Fuchsstädter and Reichenberger Bach, and their tributaries.

Both the cooperation between Würzburg and Reichenberg and the financing are regulated. The concept should also form the basis for the continuation of the flood protection measures on the Main in Heidingsfeld. Furthermore, a traffic infrastructure project, the jointly planned creation of a high-quality and safe cycle path connection between the Reichenberg market and the city of Würzburg, is closely related to the Heigelsbach.

The Free State of Bavaria has promised funding of 75 percent of the eligible costs for both the flood protection and retention concept and the water development concept. Own shares remain for the creation of the integral flood protection and retention concept, which are borne by Würzburg with 64 percent and by Markt Reichenberg with 36 percent. The municipality of Reichenberg is responsible for the remaining financing for the water development concept.
