The city of León will be one of the headquarters of PhotoEspaña this summer

Fifty Spanish cities have joined the # PHEdesdemibalcón call, promoted by PhotoEspaña, in which more than 63,000 photographs taken by the Spanish during the confinement due to the state of alarm have attended. Starting in mid-June, the balconies and windows of cities such as Burgos, León, Salamanca, Segovia, Soria, Valladolid and Zamora (all the provincial capitals of Castilla y León except Ávila and Palencia) will thus become headquarters for the project, showing the images that an expert jury selects in each city. These exhibitions will mark the starting signal for PHotoEspaña 2020, “a very special edition with which the Festival will have a presence in practically the entire country with this citizen story”, the organizers point out.

The photographic call # PHEdesdemibalcón was launched on March 30 and closed on Sunday, May 17, with more than 63,000 images on Instagram and 36,201 participations registered on the Festival’s website. PhotoEspaña wanted to invite citizens to express themselves through photography with images taken from their balconies and windows, as a collective exercise in a situation as exceptional as the one we are experiencing.

«As it has been done throughout the History of Art, windows and balconies have become once more and with more sense than ever, instruments to explore creativity, imagination and to share individual views of a situation that is more that never demands that we act as a community, “the promoters underline in a statement collected by Ical.

The Provincial Councils of Albacete and Girona and the Cuenca City Council were the last to confirm their participation in the project, thus joining the seven Castilian and Leonese cities mentioned, and Madrid, Santander, A Coruña, Alcobendas, Alcalá de Henares, Badajoz, Seville , Barcelona, Córdoba, Logroño, Oviedo, Vitoria, La Laguna, Las Palmas, Zaragoza, Castellón, Elche, Gijón, Granada, Jaén, Melilla, Pamplona, Teruel, Toledo, Vigo, Albacete, Alicante, Cáceres, Getafe, Guadalajara, Hospitalet from Llobregat, Cartagena, Coslada, Ibiza, Muxía, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Torrevieja, Valencia and Hervás.

Among all the images presented, a jury of experts will select a total of 2,450 photographs that will be those that are exposed outdoors in their respective cities. In addition, thanks to the support of Acciona, the ten best photographs will receive a prize of 500 euros each. In the coming days, the finalist images will be selected and the location of these samples will be coordinated with all the cities.
